How we know

Our data model

AllergyAware turns published restaurant data into clear allergen guidance. Here's how the pipeline works.

  1. We check published sources

Restaurant allergen guides, ingredient lists, nutrition pages, and menu PDFs.

  2. We store structured ingredient data

Each menu item has its own ingredients, source URL, and verified date.

  3. We compare against your profile

Ingredients are matched against the FDA's nine major allergens you select.

  4. Unverified items are flagged

Items without reliable published info are marked Needs Verification.

  5. We never claim guarantees

Recipes, suppliers, and prep methods can change at any location.

Status definitions

  • Safe — none of your selected allergens detected, source is high confidence.
  • Caution — no selected allergens detected, but cross-contact risk exists or data is incomplete.
  • Avoid — at least one selected allergen detected in the ingredients.
Educational tool. AllergyAware does not guarantee any item is allergy-safe. Always confirm directly with the restaurant — especially for severe allergies and cross-contact risk.
